At the time I didn’t know much about the museum while visiting Frankfurt and I wanted to have a look at the dinosaur fossils. I was exploring the city near to where I was staying and the museum was on the way so I had to stop for a look. The museum was an enjoyable experience and there was coffee too.

| An example of the display information |
The information about the displays like the dinosaurs are in both English and German. It also tells you if the remains are an original or a cast, and the location of the museum the original is located. It helped in telling me the location of the fossillised remains of the Archaeopteryx were held like in London and in Berlin museums, or if they were part of private collections. The museum has one on display, which is part of a private collection.
What is unique is when you walk into the dinosaur exhibit, there are dinosaur footprints on the floor that are covered by plexiglass.

Not only do they have land based dinosaurs, but there are those that used to swim in the oceans too. There is an explanation about one ichthyosaur and how it was prepared using tools when found around 100 years before. The fossils are more of which had my attention especially when the originals are in front of my eyes
There are display cases of animals from around the world, and even a skeleton of Lucy though it is a cast of the original that is elsewhere, as part of its display on evolution. I was more interested in the dinosaurs at the time so glossed over everything else, although there were skeletons of Mammoths and other elephant relatives that are now extinct.
The Messel Pit, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage site that is important due to the fossil finds was another highlight as I never knew about this area before. The Messel pit is located in a remote part of Germany. It was good that the information was in German and English or else I would have trouble.
The museum would have changed a little since I was there last time especially over the last few years and according to the website there is now an app.
